“Body awareness is a key component of all of our rope experiences. In this class, we’ll explore the body mechanics of bottoming, learn how to better understand our emotional responses to physical stimuli, and look at ways to more effectively communicate what we are experiencing to our partners. The hands-on portion of this class will include exercises designed to improve your overall awareness and communication. This is an all-levels, all-bodies class where an introspective learning mindset is encouraged. We also recommend bringing something to take notes with and a tying partner to practice with.
Format: Tie-along (partnered preferred)
Materials: An open mind, 1 piece of Natural Fiber Rope, notetaking materials if desired.
Diamonds Are Forever: Introduction to hishi-pattern concepts.
So you know a couple knots, frictions and hitches. You’ve already got your basic Gote and Futomomo structure down. Now what!? We can begin playing with the structures that make up some of our favorite ties and create a whole new look, yet maintain their structural integrity. Through learning and applying these new patterns attendees will learn a finer control of tension, rope handling, and aesthetics. We’ll also cover some interesting tips of how placement of frictions can be used for pressure point play. This will be an intermediate to advanced class.
Prerequisites: Single-column tie, understanding of basic frictions (reverse tension, half-hitch, munter-hitch),
Materials: 3 to 5 8-meter lengths of rope (natural fiber preferred).
Also known as Anza or “Barbarian Sitting” is a sitting crossed leg position than can start off simple, but ramp up to incredible intensity. Together we’ll go over the basic components of the tie from positioning to knots and frictions. We’ll cover simple constructions for interesting floowork exploration to advanced forms for extreme semenawa.
If time allows demonstration of suspension applications.
- 3-6 natural fiber ropes 25-30 ft.
- A non-collapsing single column cuff.
Many of the most important and iconic ties in Japanese style rope bondage can be broken down into a few fundamental units. In this class, we’ll improve your handling and flow with the most common hitches.
Together we’ll explore all the components of what makes a tie work with some free form exercises to help us become more fluid with our rope handling. We’ll finish off by putting everything together in a Hojo-Hishi, a pattern which includes just about every standard friction you might encounter in the wild.
By breaking down this tie into its parts, students will have a firmer grasp as to how these tools can work in conjunction to build strong stable ties, and improve their own ability to identify and improvise structures in patterns of their own.
